My love affair with perfumes started as a child in Davao City, Philippines. Having been raised by a family with an orchid and cut-flower farm, I have always found myself playing in the gardens, admiring the scents of various flowers. And with a small home-based laboratory for orchid culture, I developed a keen scientific approach to perfume making by boiling flowers and mixing oils as early as 10 years old. This early exposure has then been fortified 10 years later having graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University with degrees in Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering.
In my constant studies and interaction with perfume enthusiasts, I learned that the Philippines was once considered the Perfume Capital of Asia. Producing the world’s best oils, the country has competed well with houses in Europe to create world-class scents.
Sadly, those days are long gone and forgotten.
It is my dream to bring back Filipino pride in the field of perfumery. Every scent that is carefully designed and crafted hopefully reflects the richness and uniqueness of our culture. So that in each little whiff, the Filipino is celebrated and shared to the rest of the world.
